Activities Committee The Activities Committee is responsible for the planning and support of social and fellowship activities for the congregation. The committee plans and presents a variety of social activities to reach a broad cross section of the congregation and to allow for growth of Christian love and friendship through our fellowship together. Specific activities include things like…
Discipleship Committee In the 28th chapter of Matthew’s Gospel Jesus tells his followers “Go therefore and make disciples…” And we all know that there is more to being a disciple that just being church member. The Evangelism Committee helps the church share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the community, working to turn visitors into members. The Discipleship Committee picks up where Evangelism leaves off, turning members into disciples. The committee was formed as a response to our goal to “Build a ministry to welcome and integrate people into congregational life.” The Discipleship Committee coordinates social ministry activities and events to help St. John’s members put their faith into action. Evangelism Committee In the narrow sense, the word “evangelist” refers to one of the Gospel writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Literally, however, the word means, “one who proclaims good tidings or good news.” In that sense, we all are (or should be) evangelists, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. Evangelism for our church includes both taking the Word of God out into the community as well as welcoming and hospitality for those visitors who come to worship with us. This would include things like…
The Evangelism Committee is also responsible for proclaiming Christ and making St. John's Lutheran Church known in the community. This is accomplished by things like...
Learning Committee This committee’s primary responsibility is to fulfill the second clause of our Mission Statement: “As the people of God in this place we learn and grow to mature faith as a community of believers.” This is accomplished through a variety of Christian educational forms and programs for youth and adults to experience the love of God through Biblical and historical witness and to empower them in a mature faith in Jesus Christ with a responsibility to witness to this faith in the modern world. In addition to developing new educational opportunities for learning, this committee’s specific ministry is to ensure the effective planning, administration and staffing for…
Stewardship Committee We often think of stewardship as fund raisers and pledge drives, but stewardship is much more than this. Stewardship includes time and talents as well as treasures. Stewardship is making good use of church resources, financial and personal. Stewardship is helping the people of God feel part of the church family by using their gifts for ministry. The Stewardship Committee strives to help people understand that everything we have is a gift from God, and we are keepers or administrators of these gifts during our time on earth. The Stewardship Committee is also responsible for finding a way for people who want to make gifts and bequeaths to the church. A long-term vision for stewardship is also a key to a healthy church and fulfilling our mission. Youth Ministry Committee The Youth Ministry Committee provides ministry to and with young people, so that they may grow in faith and in their understanding of themselves as members of the congregation, to work for the involvement of young people in all aspects of congregational life. Responsibilities include things like…
Worship and Music Committee The Worship and Music Committee is responsible for providing the atmosphere, structure, and support activities that will allow each member and visitor to St. John’s Lutheran Church to receive a meaningful worship experience. This includes both traditional and contemporary services and the coordination of music, worship order, and content for combined and joint services. This committee is responsible for the selection of appropriate music and hymns for each service, supervision of alter guild and their responsibilities, and recruitment and training as needed for ushers, greeters, acolytes, nursery attendants, and other lay assistants or helpers who facilitate the worship service. The committee is also involved with the planning and implementation of changes to the worship service or structure that come about as the result of suggestions from church council, church members, or from the Synod or ELCA.
